Getting a free virtual hair makeover is a great idea if you are considering a new haircut, especially if you are thinking of a big change of style such as long to short, or a dramatically new hair color. Instead of the old style of articles in the hair and beauty magazines where you would search through trying to find a model whose face was shaped like yours with a cut that you liked, now you can upload your own photo to the internet and try different kinds of styles using your real face. Then print it and take it to the beauty parlor.

A makeover is a great way of staying young-looking. Whether it is a new haircut or a different range of cosmetics, the process automatically brings you up to date. Think of what you see when you look at a photo of young people in the 1970s or 1980s. Don't they look older than they are? That is because their style is now long out of fashion. Keeping up with today's looks keeps you young.

If you still have the same hair or makeup brand that you had 10 years ago, you are surely out of date and looking older than you should. It is time for a makeover. Take along a look that you like but always let the beautician or hair stylist make suggestions too. If you ask her to recommend something for you she will choose something that is popular now.

Most of us often think about making changes to our appearance, but rarely do anything about it. In most cases there is no reason to be afraid. The changes are reversible. If nobody likes your new scarlet eye makeup, okay, you just change it again.

The exception is with hair. If you go short and decide you do not like it, it will take a while (maybe years) to grow back. But the good news is that you may discover some great new looks on the way. While your hair is growing you can try many different styles. What seems like a mistake may be a great opportunity!

Be prepared for other people to take a while to get used to your new look. Parents, husbands, and especially kids do not always like to see change in you. They count on you to be a certain person in their lives and any sign that you want to change things (even something tiny like your perfume or lip color) can be scary.

It's a good idea to find ways to reassure them that you are still the same person, and maybe involve them in the change by discussing it with them first - but only if you are going to listen to what they say. If your kids tell you there is no way they want a Mom with pink streaked hair and you go ahead and do it anyway, it's worse than not asking them at all. On the other hand if your husband likes it when you have your hair a particular way or thinks a certain new style is sexy, it's useful to know that!

Makeovers can be a wonderful way to try out as many new styles as you like. You may even find your personality changing at the same time. Knowing that she looks good is a huge boost to a woman's confidence. For the same reason, having a makeover is a great way to combat stress or depression.

Many people have a makeover for a big social event such as a wedding. In fact, this is probably not the best time to try out a completely new look. Although makeovers are a great confidence-booster, on the first day you may be a little nervous about how your new look will be received by others. So it's usually better to have the complete makeover a few weeks before and then go back to the beautician the day of the event. Or, if you want to surprise everyone, use a free virtual hair makeover to test out your new look ahead of time.
